The great man is so individual ...


Conclusion: The cult of "the great man", which epitomizes individualism, lacks the social basis for a life of moral virtue.

EP1.  In today’s society, very few political communities have a consensus on their view of justice (244).

EP2.  Our individualistic culture poses the greatest threat to the concept of justice (244). 
            IP1.  Justice is an important factor within our society.

EP3.  One person/group can only receive justice at the price of another person/groups justice (246).
A.   No principles are neutral (246).

EP4.  Claims of necessity and claims of entitlement in the social/political field cannot be debated in a truly neutral way (246).

EP5.  Rawls- Justice must come from a veil of ignorance (246).
A.   Instead of individualism, society should aid the least advantaged people (247).
B.    The community should have future generations in mind, (247).
C.    Justice is more important than political efficiency (247). 

EP6.  Rawls asserts that those worst off in society are those with a lack of income, wealth and other goods (248).
            IP2:  People want wealth and other goods.

EP7.  Nozick sees equality through entitlement (248).

EP8.  We are never truly behind a veil of ignorance (249).
A.   Everyone would feel entitled to having their needs met.

EP9.  Neither Rawls or Norzick focused on who actually deserved justice. (249).
            IP3.  Worthiness and entitlement are different things.

EP10.  Both Rawls and Norzick see people as valuing individual interests before community interests (250). 

EP11.  The primary objective when people are put together in a social setting is personal safety.

EP15.  Supreme court decisions are not in consensus with a single view of justice (251).
            IP4.  The Supreme Court is a model of what society should be.

EP16.  The modern state does not have a true vision of patriotism (254).
            A. Cannot have patriotism with no consensus of moral virtue (254).
